'akira kurusu' vs 'ren amamiya'

i just read a post about how the poster prefers the p5 protag’s name as ren (as opposed to akira) because ‘ren amamiya’ is a much softer and smoother name than harsh and prickly ‘akira kurusu’, and you know? i think i prefer ‘akira’ to ‘ren’ for the exact same reasons.

‘akira kurusu’ seems like a very fitting name for a baritone-voiced knife nut who pounces on shadows and rips their face plates/masks off with his bare hands. is ‘ren’ a large ham with a smirky flair for the dramatic? would ‘ren’ roar “RAVAGE THEM” as he strikes down brain-monsters with the manifestation of his rebellious spirit? i think i could picture a ‘ren’ pulling off the heist of the century and use a parallel universe to fake his death, but it’s a very ‘akira’ thing to purchase big thick-rimmed glasses for the sake of looking more harmless than people want to think he is. (he needs all the help he can get.) all that trolling in his dialogue choices? very ‘akira’.

‘ren amamiya’ is much more mild-mannered than mr. criminal trash. ‘akira kurusu’ is most definitely on probation and really really #Trying to be nice and inoffensive and succeeding like… sometimes. with people he really cares about. usually. it’s a work in progress.
